Dimensions

for mixed octet ensemble

An art gallery in its physical form is confined to the space it fills. It merely takes the figure of any other building. However, its content has the ability to transport its occupants to places that transcend the three dimensions of a room. This piece reflects upon this transcendence and fills the performance space with music.

It is highly recommended that this piece is conducted despite the extended sections without measure. This being said, performers are more than welcome to attempt this without a conductor.

Two percussionists will be needed in total to cover the crotales and vibraphone. The crotales will need to be a full two-octave chromatic set. The vibraphone does not require a bow or a motor.

First performed at Ian Potter Museum of Art, Victoria, Australia and curated by Andrew Groch.
